Who We Are

Refugees Northwest believes that every person forced to flee war, persecution and terror can heal, thrive and enrich our community with their unique gifts and strengths. We work with thousands of refugees and asylum-seekers each year to build upon the strength and courage that got them here, and to support their hopes and dreams.
As the only certified torture treatment center in Washington State, we help survivors heal from past trauma, recover from serious medical conditions, learn English, develop new skills, secure homes and jobs, gain citizenship, and build fulfilling connections.
Over 60% of our staff came to the United States as refugees or seeking asylum. Speaking over 15 languages, our dedicated and experienced staff have walked in the shoes of those we serve, giving us unique insight. For the past 35 years we’ve proudly served as part of Lutheran Community Services Northwest, where we have always pursued the most innovative and effective practices. Because of that commitment, we are recognized–both nationally and internationally–as leaders in addressing the challenges that refugees and asylum seekers face.
